I don’t think there’s any picture where you’re more self-critical than a self-portrait. Even more so when the original is such a brilliant photograph.
Moreover, this self-portrait shows how little sense it makes to smile and having your mouth open in a painting (the photo was not taken for the purpose). In a painting, the mouth should be closed and there should be no laugh lines either.  

Ich glaube nicht, dass es irgend ein Bild gibt, bei dem man selbstkritischer ist, als bei einem Selbstpoträt. Noch dazu, wenn die Vorlage ein so brillantes Foto ist (Reiner Pohl).
Zudem zeigt dieses Selbstporträt, wie wenig sinnvoll es ist, auf einem Gemälde zu lächeln und dabei den Mund offen zu haben (das Foto wurde nicht für den Zweck gemacht). Bei einem Gemälde sollte der Mund zu sein und auch keine Lachfalten zu sehen.
